One of the easiest and cheapest ways to gain more fuel mileage is by replacing your vehicles air filter often. Check the element at every oil change service and replace it when you can not see light through it. If light has a hard time getting through, then air will also have a hard time getting through. I have added a video showing how to replace the air filter. Other vehicles are similar and should be maintained in the same way. Don't forget to reset the maintenance indicator light once your oil is changed and your air filter is checked or changed.

RESETTING The Maintenance Indicator Light

The 1997–01 Corvette is equipped with an Oil Life Monitor. The Oil Life Monitor is used to inform the driver when the next service is required. A scan tool can be used to monitor and display the amount of oil life left (shown as a percentage).

NOTE: Repair any Throttle Position (TP) or Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor diagnostic trouble codes before resetting the oil life monitor.

  1. Turn the ignition ON but do not start the engine.
  2. Depress the accelerator pedal to the Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position and release it 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. If the Oil Life Monitor is not reset, perform this procedure again.
  4. Change the oil and the filter.

How do I Replace the Air Filter On my '94 Saturn ?

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1991–94 SOHC Engine
  1. Remove the thumb screws from the top of the cover, then release the 6 fastener clips.
  2. Lift the cover up and off of the housing.
  3. Remove the air filter element and replace if dirty. If the element is only slightly dusty, it can be cleaned by blowing compressed air through the element from the clean side.

    To install:

  4. Wipe all dust from the inside of the housing using a clean rag or cloth.
  5. Install the element into the housing, then position the cover over the element.
  6. Secure the cover with the fastener clips, then tighten the thumb screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm). Do not overtighten the thumb screws.
