For Vehicle Specific Instructions START HERE. For most cars the first thing to do is put the car securely on jack stands. Drain the engine oil. Remove anything blocking the mounting bolts. If removal of the starter is needed, disconnect the battery first. Once everything is out of the way, remove the mounting bolts. Remove the oil pan(a slight tap from a rubber mallet may be needed) Clean the surfaces. Attach the new oil pan gasket and install in reverse order. I find that a couple of strategically placed drops of super glue help hold the gasket in place.
