RPM stands for Revolutions Per Minute. This is in reference to the engines crank shaft. The Crank shaft revolutions are metered by an RPM gauge mounted on the car dashboard. The RPM gauge is usually a one digit number from 0 through 10. Each number is to be multiplied by 1000. So if the RPM gauge on the dash of the car is pointing at the 3, the the engines crank shaft is spinning at 3,000 Revolutions Per Minute.
